John C. Hitt Library Renovation

The UCF Library Expansion is a multi-phase, multi-year project whose goal is to modernize the library and increase individual and group study space. The first phase, Phase 1, consists of a stand-alone Automatic Retrieval Center (ARC) which can store up to 750,000 volumes of library materials. Phase 1 also includes the addition of fire sprinklers to the existing library, upgrades to stair rails to comply with current building codes, and upgrades to select restrooms for ADA compliance. The second phase of the project, Phase 1A (casually known as the “Connector”), ties the stand-alone ARC building to the main library. Phase 1A will provide four floors of new space which includes study space, a multipurpose room, three additional elevators, and a second entrance to the library. This phase is currently under construction, with an anticipated opening date of October, 2019. Phase 2 will renovate the existing library in a series of phases – this scope is currently in conceptual planning, with the goal of starting construction once Phase 1A is complete.
